Sona Nyl: 1908 - A Rainy Day

~1908, a certain month. Sole Subway Car~

...Dripping water. Dripping water. Dripping water.

...Watery sounds. Watery sounds. Watery sounds.

Lily was very, very unsatisfied.

She wanted to go outside.

The sole subway car was running through the sky, and though she couldn't go out right now, she wanted to open the window wide and get some fresh air. But she can't.

Because it was raining.

The sky that was supposed to be blue turned cloudy, and it started to rain, rain, rain.

Lily had suggested they just run through the snow, but A said "I don't recommend that. We'll lose altitude to see the ocean. For now, we'll be running through the clouds and snow."

That's why today was a rainy day.

She leans by the window.

Resting her chin on her hand and elbow.

Lily expressed her dissatisfaction with her whole body as she stared at the window where the rain kept on hitting her relentlessly. From the grey beyond the window.

"...I wonder when will the rain stop."

A sigh.

She wonders how many times she's sighed today.

It wasn't fun.

It wasn't joyful.

But she wasn't angry.

She wasn't sad or lonely.

...Or maybe it was something close to loneliness?

Since it started to rain, no one has come to play with her.

Not even Mao.

But it was something small, squishy, and dark.

(A said it was something like a Small Horror)

It was something small and black with a red eye.

(It looked something like this -> [< ● >])

It was like the rain was blocking out everyone who has visited the sole subway car. When I think about it, it makes me very upset. Of course, it was my own fault for wanting to see the ocean.

"Hey, A. I'm a little lonely here."

"Aren't I enough?"

"I don't mean it like that."

It wasn't just the loneliness of being alone.

It wasn't just not having the warmth of two people cuddling together.

It was something else.

Lily tried to hide the fact her cheeks were heating up by keeping her head towards the window as she continues to talk.

"When the sky is dark, I don't feel so well."

"I suppose that's what happens under the gray snow."

"Can't everyone come if it's under the snow?"

"That could be the case."

"Is that so?"

"Yes."

"As always, you do as you please."

"A?"

A not replying back was rare. She couldn't help but look back.

She met his eyes as he looked at her.

He was tall.

He had red eyes.

"Why are you being silent?"

"..."

"Hey, A."

"Being so close to the ground would mean being close to reality."

"?"

"It's just unreasonable."

"??"

---Reality. Unreasonable?
---What on earth are you talking about?

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~1902, a certain month. Private high school~

"Huh? You getting depressed over the rain? Ah, or is it something else?"

"Looks like you aren't coming on so well."

"T-that's not true."

"Hmm. Okay, thanks Celvin. That's about as average as you can get for boys, Ellie."

"I wonder if professor is like that too..."

"I'd say they're different when it comes to being an adult, but the professor seems young in his emotions and demeanor."

"So the Professor likes the sky?

"You really think so?"

"Mm, maybe..."

"Hey, what are you going on about?"

"Okay, here's what we were discussing."

"Is it alright to be talking about the weather? I don't mind if it's raining or being cloudy as usual. There's no need to be dissatisfied with either. It's just something that can't be helped. When I was a child, I thought I wouldn't be able to play outside when it rained. But then I thought it was a good opportunity to read books that I normally never read. Plus, once the rain subsides, all of the kids would go out and play to their heart's content."

"...Yes, right."

"What's your reaction on this, you two?"

"Quite surprised. Well, I'm sure that's something the boys would think a lot on as well."

"What? So that's what you were talking about?"

~1908, a certain month. Sole Subway Car~

After all---

There was only one reason for Lily The Stranger's dissatisfaction.

Regardless if it rained or not, there was only so much she could do in the sole subway car.

She never had any sort of major dissatisfaction with that, but the reason she felt so bored was because of being unable to go outside.

She wanted to go out.

A said there was nothing they can do about it.

It wasn't like she's going to cross over dreams (in a form different from what she is in now) or go out in the fluffy snow. She wanted to go out using her current clothes.

She wanted to see the ground with her own eyes.

She wanted to walk the earth as she is.

Yes, that's what she thought.

A said they couldn't do that because of the rain.

"Connecting with the sky is important. You can't lose yourself on the ground."

"?"

"It means you can't go out on rainy days."

"Ch..."

She places her index finger on the window glass.

The window, covered in a vague whitish hew, was like a canvas. The tip of her finger was like a brush.

By making smooth strokes, she can make a drawing with lines.

Drawing and erasing.

She breaths on it in a warm breath, making it white again.

She draws again, and erases it again.

"What are you drawing?"

"What? It's a frog. Can you tell?"

"Is that not a dinosaur?"

"Is it?"

"No."

(To be continued)
