Sekien no Inganock Website: Keywords 2

Info of this can be found on the official website here.

Inganock Technology

Engine

That which powers all machines, such as computers that can perform advanced calculations and information processing machines, the very cornerstone of civilization throughout the Known World. Even Inganock is of no exception despite being isolated from the rest of the world, with engines appearing all over the city.

It is a large combustion engine, and the larger the engine is, the greater the output.

The residences of nobles, Engine factories, and large merchant homes are permitted to house medium to large-sized Engines. For those of ordinary subjects and citizens, they can house small Engines.

Phenomena Equation (Crack)

A power created in Inganock, the city where all sorts of illusions have manifested during the Revival ten years ago.

It is an isolated technology unique to Inganock that does not exist anywhere else in the Known World.

It can conjure phenomena that shouldn't exist.

It is a mysterious theory founded by the Archduke Astaire, who was researching the reason and cause of the Revival that filled the city, and by truly understanding a certain Equation and imaging it in his head, he can manipulate various sorts of phenomena similar to the "magic" that appears in fairy tales.

Once mastered, it becomes possible to manipulate destructive flames that exceeds firearms or the ability to heal an injured body, but only a small percentage of humans could master the complex and mysterious Astaire Theory. Said users are only a fraction of the city's population, which is said to be less than 1%.

Numerical Engine (Crack Engine)

An Engine Machine that replaces the human body or embeds in them, which was created using the Cracking Effect.

It is an isolated Engine Machine unique to Inganock that does not exist anywhere else in the Known World.

Originally, they were developed as prosthetic limbs for people whose limbs were mutated to the point it became difficult for them to live due to the Taboo Illness. Currently, their application has been made possible in strengthening the mind and body.

Many of the lower tier citizens have lost their limbs due to attacks by the Fantasy Creatures or by mutations from the Taboo Illness, causing them to replace it with this Engine (the replacement and implementation surgeries are referred to as "Enginization").

Although some have self-enginized themselves for convenience, those who undergo "Enginization of more than 40% of their body" which is dangerous for the mind and body are nothing more than "Rough Housers (Street Punks)" who have implanted themselves with built-in weapons and Crack Engines for combat purposes.

Although it was said that if one were to become an "Engine Human" where their whole body becomes an Engine, they'd be able to annihilate even large Fantasy Creatures. However, the strain on their brain and mind is too much, and there have been no successive case where such a replacement surgery has been recorded.

Some people have referred to this craft as "Cybernetics".

Firearm

The possession of Firearms are prohibited in Inganock.

It's said that only some Upper Tier Soldiers can possess them. However, since they're unable to affect Fantasy Creatures or Critters, people have had little interest in or desire for firearms.

Engine Connection (Connect)

A function that is obtained by implanting a Crack Engine Connector into the body and having it synchronize with calculation and information Engines to extract various information without a complicated input.

It, too, is also a machine unique to Inganock that does not exist anywhere else in the Known World

Its function is activated through contact with a calculating Engine or the like, and focusing it on the Crack Engine.

A beginner's Crack Engine Connector is a very small one implanted in the brain (occipital lobe), and the surgical scars for them as almost invisible due to being concealed by hair. Many of the lower tier citizens have garnered money to give to black market doctors and Cracking Doctors and, in exchange for risking their life through any failed surgeries, they can increase the productivity of Engine factories to some extent.

As the more "advanced" Crack Engines have been made forbidden by the upper tiers, major surgery on the brain is required to replace part of it. Although the surgery has a high mortality rate due to failure, if the surgery turns out successful, the person can be able to instantly manipulate many computing machines and gain superhuman information processing capabilities. However, finding a black market doctor capable of successfully performing brain replacement surgery is more difficult than successfully performing the surgery.

Monorail

One of the means of transportation between the tiers of Inganock, which is a multi-tier structure. It is a paid service widely used in the daily lives of citizens.

Crack Engine and Medical Care

Nowadays, the Crack Engine gives off the impression that it strengthens the fighting prowess of gangsters, drug gangs, and Upper Tier Soldiers. But originally, it was a technology made as medical prosthetics.

It was a machine made to suppress rejective reactions and stress as much as possible as well as to compensate for lost physical functions. These have become very common for the lower tiers as treatment for those who have suffered physical damage due to accidents or incidents, or those have contracted diseases.

Many medical Crack Engines are expensive if they're the genuine product approved by the upper tiers. Thus, people in the lower tiers illegally obtain cheap Crack Engine limbs from black clinics and markets.

...Despite being an open secret, there is also an Engine factory in the lower tiers that successfully mass-produces cheap Crack Engines. In this case, however, the rejective reactions and stress are several times higher than those of the geninue products. In response, the upper tiers of the city have remained silent.

Noble Crest and Upper Tier Noble Protection Policy

Mutated diseases have spread throughout the city. A medical opinion have gone on that there isn't a way to escape from these diseases that mutates one into a Fantasy Race.

There is widespread superstition among the lower tiers that wearing an exhalation mask can prevent this, but this has no basis to it. On the other hand, there has been a more realistic measure taken in the upper tiers. That being a "noble crest" carved onto the skins of upper tier nobles, which is, in a sense, proof of their nobility.

It's a formula pattern based on the Cracking Effect, and is supposed to grant complete protection against the Mutation Disease that distorts the body.

The lower tier citizens envied this crest, thinking "Please carve one onto me". However, the Upper tiers have stated "It's at the human experimentation stage". The ruling upper tier nobles would take the lead in conducting experiments on their own bodies, and if it safety is ensured, they would eventually distribute this craft to the lower tiers.

...Some have believed in this.

...Some doubt it.

Among the nobility, this system of carving crests is referred to as the Upper Tier Noble Protection Policy. Was it truly a human experiment? By looking at the name, it was self-explanatory.

Cracking Effect Experiment

Inganock (and the world's) first Cracking Effect Experiment was carried out by the Archduke Astaire in the upper tiers in order to combat the disaster brought about by the Revival ten years ago. It was said that the Archduke devoted himself to the experiment in order to complete the Astaire Theory, also known as the Cracking Effect, to give the city the power to repel the disaster. The starting date of the experiment was a week (7 days) after the Revival. That was its official announcement.

As the Archduke's "successful Cracking Effect Experiment" was announced two years after the Revival, that meant it took two years to complete the Formula.

It's said that during the disaster, many Scholars participated in the Cracking Effect Experiment and collapsed, and the Archduke himself had fallen ill during it. In fact, this is why the Archduke has not shown himself to the nobles and citizens for the past ten years. It's said that the Archduke's voice echoed throughout the city using broadcasting equipment, both times for the announcement on the Cracking Effect Experiment being successful and announcing the enforcement of City Law.

Shilling Cred

A type of Engine Card. It is used in the city's lower tiers as "money that replaces cash".

Payment is guaranteed and often autonomous, so it is used frequently in illegal commercial transactions. Its meaning is the same as that of an unsigned paid check. No matter how expensive it may be, all one needs is a single card as it's highly portable and, above all, its unsigned so it cannot be traced.

It's often said to be a reward for Runners.

Drug Amnerol

A new drug that is mainly effective when injected intravenously with a new type of needless syringe that is spread across the lower tiers. There's also one that can taken orally, but it is pure and not widely available.

It's an illegal drug said to be handled by the lower tiers drug gangs and underworld merchants.

Side effects of the drug is as followed:

  • Loss sense of present time.
  • Extreme euphoria and characterization of hazy memory.
  • Abnormal color sense.

It's a sweet drug used to forget about the present. That is Amnerol. Currently, it's an explosively popular drug in the city's lower tiers, and many street corner dealers sell it at low prices.

However, caution must be made when using it. Symptoms of severe Amnerol poisoning are extremely fatal such as:

  • Sudden mental frenzy.
  • Physical exhaustion.
  • Extreme damage to internal organs.

On top of these symptoms, if the addict is an Ogre, he or she may exhibit abnormal physical strength that can destroy bulletproof walls.

That said, the mortality rate of people addicted to this drug is extremely high. Those who go crazy are killed by the Administration or Runners, and there are those who die from internal organ failure. And the most common victim of this is...

...A suicide victim.

Root of the Cracking Effect

The original, fundamental Astaire Theory that was supposed to be engraved into Archduke Astaire's brain during the Cracking Effect Experiment. According to a record left behind by the last Scholar (albeit a scribbled one), it was said to be deeply involved with the city's Revival.

However, what was engraved in the Archduke's brain was not the Root of the Cracking Effect. What it was is the second Cracking Effect, which is understood as the Astaire Theory. Yes, such a thing was written in the record...if so, just who and where was the Root of the Cracking Effect engraved on?

...It's said that the Scholar left behind the record collapsed and died without being able to write it down.
